Position Summary

Matanuska Valley Federal Credit Union seeks a dynamic financial services professional to lead the Credit Union as President/Chief Executive Officer upon the retirement of the current President/CEO.  Collaborating with the Board of Directors, this executive will be responsible for developing and setting the direction for the growth of the organization and achieving the overall goals and objectives included in the strategic plan while maintaining the Credit Union’s financial health and stability. The successful candidate will exhibit strong people and motivational skills, be a team builder, and guide organizational change while building consensus. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required; an advanced degree is preferred. At least fifteen years in the financial services industry and seven to ten years of executive experience within the credit union or retail banking industry are required. Credit union experience is highly preferred.

Originally chartered on December 7, 1948, when 20 members pooled a combined share balance of $395.00.  Growth was slow at first, and all work was done by volunteers. Through the perseverance and vision of many MVFCU pioneers, the Credit Union has grown and thrived.  FCU is one of the leading financial institutions in Alaska, with over 58,000 members and almost $935 million in assets. MVFCU’ serves members in Alaska and the Waipahu Neighborhood Board #22 of the City and County of Honolulu, Hawaii. In addition, MVFCU has expanded its charter to include all of Alaska, continuing the focus on serving the underserved. Palmer, Alaska is in the Mat-Su Valley, approximately 40 miles outside Anchorage. The area is known for its microclimate, which provides food to communities throughout the state. Surrounded by the Talkeetna and Chugach Mountains, Palmer provides a striking landscape with plenty of opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts, including hunting, fishing, hiking, skiing, and other recreational activities. Within city limits, the rustic town offers two elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school, which offers the International Baccalaureate program. Additionally, Palmer is home to Matanuska-Susitna College, an extended college of the University of Alaska Anchorage, serving nearly 2,000 students per semester, and the Alaska Bible College, the only accredited theology and ministry program within the state. With its rich history, charming downtown, and a blend of agriculture and mountainous landscape, you won’t find a more breathtaking place to call home.
